Has your place of employment ever had a "mascot", of sorts?

'Place of employment' can cover a whole lot of situations. Not everyone who responds to the 'Rail' section of Yahoo Answers has a railroading background. In my own case, I was employed at sea for many years as a ships engineer, before a couple of engineroom accidents forced me ashore. Every ship on which I sailed had a ship's cat. Their favourite place was near or in the galley, although the 'Doc' (ship's cook) rarely agreed with this. They were usually liked by the rest of the crew though and were regarded as a talisman or mascot and were thoroughly spoiled. Strangely they nearly all shared the same name 'Cooking Fat' usually bestowed on them by the 'Doc'.
